A celebration of the life and works of Robert Burns and a good excuse for a party!
Burns was a poet and songwriter, born in village of Alloway in Scotland on 25th January 1759 and is considered the National Poet of Scotland
Friends get together for a dinner of "Haggis, Neaps and Tatties" and poetry before a night of "Ceilidh" dancing.
The main poem for the night will be "The address to the Haggis", read when the haggis is brought to the table.
This Burns' poem, in archaic dialect, honours the magnificent meal, and the reader actually slices open the haggis during the Poem.
The poem ends with the line "Gie her a Haggis" at which time all the other Haggis should be sliced open.
Feel free to applaud your reader at this point before slicing!
A traditional Scottish dance where couples dance together in groups.
